VAT for a property investment LTD

LANDLORD FORUMCategory: TaxVAT for a property investment LTD
Alisdair Easton asked 3 years ago

I've recently set up a Ltd that will be purchasing Buy-to-let properties. Whilst I am aware we will not be charging VAT on rent, will the business be able to claim back the VAT it pays eg, on invoices from managing agents, contractors etc. Thanks for your help.

Seek tax advice... my understanding is if you elect to be VAT registered then you will have to charge VAT on the rent, then you can claim other elements of the VAT back, hence this is the reason most residential landlords to not elect to become VAT registered.
