Is it reasonable to be asked to pay the cost of the installation of window blinds?

LANDLORD FORUMCategory: RepairsIs it reasonable to be asked to pay the cost of the installation of window blinds?

Hello. The first thing I must admit to is that I am a tenant rather than a landlord. But I thought you all might be able to help with my query anyway! :

I have just moved into a newly refurbished first floot flat. The main room in the flat has a large bay window that overlooks the residential street that I live on. When I was moving in, my landlord mentioned that this window didn't have any blinds fitted, but he said once I was moved in, I could get in touch with him and he could arrange for the installation of the blinds.

However, when I did contact about the installation of the blinds, he then told me that he was expecting me to pay 50% of the installation of the blinds which amounts to £150. I note that this was quite unexpected as I naturally would have assumed that blinds are an integral part of a flat and as such these would be classed as a necessity and/or a maintenance cost and as such I would have expected the landlord to pay the full cost of the installation.

I am just wondering if anyone can offer any thoughts ot advice on this?

Thanks

This is something that should have been dealt with at the time negotiations took place when considering renting the property. Now it is for both parties to be reasonable and come to a fair resolution to this problem.
